Rasheed Araeen
- Rasheed Araeen was born in 1935 in Karachi, Pakistan and moved to London in 1964 where he has lived ever since.
- He is a conceptual artist, sculptor, painter, writer, and curator.
- He has curated two important exhibitions:
The Essential Black Art, Chisenhale Gallery, 1987;
The Other Story, Hayward Gallery, 1989 - His essay ‘The Success and the Failure of Black Art’ provides some important insights into the movement, and can be read in the volume, Shades of Black: Assembling Black Art in 1980s Britain (Durham, NC, 2005).
